Northern Territory

Several Database compilation projects for Northern Territory data have been  undertaken  by Terra Search including:

  • The Northern Australia Proterozoic Basin (1996)
  • The MacArthur Basin (1997
  • Tanami
  • Pine Creek

The 1996-97 projects collected stream sediment and drillhole data.

71,000 stream sediment samples were collected between 1996 and 1997. Subsequent sampling programs have brought the database stream sediment total to 79,188 samples.

Over 500 drill hole locations were compiled in the database between 1996 and 1997 (diamond core, RC percussion, open hole percussion, bedrock and RAB) with downhole assays, surveys, and geological observations.

Additional data including rock chip and RAB and bedrock drilling data has been compiled in the period since then under the Tanami and Pine Creek projects. The intellectual property rights to  the data have been purchased by the NT Government. The MacArthur Basin project (1997) was initially funded by North Ltd and Rio Tinto Ltd, with a moratorium period for their access to the data, which later reverted to Terra Search who have sold the rights to the NT government.

Subsequent to Terra Search’s compilation work the NT government has undertaken its own compilation programs and much of this data has been added to the Terra Search database. The database now contains:

  • 79,188 stream samples
  • 53,870 soil samples
  • 4,788 rock chips
  • 163 diamond drillholes
  • 1,366 REVC drillhole
  • 54 openhole percussion drillholes
  • 1,735 RAB drillholes
  • 6,077 bedrock drillholes

The data is available in Terra Search’s Explorer 3 Data Management system which is also used by the NT government.

The data compiled by Terra Search Pty Ltd has been delivered to the NT government and is the intellectual property of the NT government. It is available from the NT government  and can be obtained for free on CD/DVD from them. Terra Search Pty Ltd can provide the data but some cost will be charged.
