The QDNRM Tender Agreement Number NRO0054 was awarded to Terra Search Pty Ltd in late 2005 and was signed and accepted by Terra Search on 15th December 2005.

The tender provides for the compilation, over 4 years, of the surface and drillhole data which remains to be collected following earlier compilation projects.

In the mid to late 1980’s Terra Search began compiling open file data from northeast Queensland in areas such as the Ravenswood Block and Drummond Basin, where we were managing exploration programs.  The concept of undertaking multiclient, mineral province scale, compilations was initiated with Australian Mineral Industry Research Association (AMIRA) project P413 on the Mt Isa Block (1993-1995) followed on by AMIRA P413A over Eastern Queensland (1995-1997).  Both these projects were very successful and well supported by mineral exploration companies and the Queensland Department of Minerals and Energy (now QDNRM).

Following these projects further compilation work on behalf of the Queensland government was carried out, and in 2003 the Queensland government purchased the intellectual property rights to all the Queensland open file data held in Terra Search’s Explorer 3 Database Management system at that time. This transfer of data highlighted the need to further extend the Queensland coverage to a complete extraction of all remaining surface and drillhole data from the open file report system.

Utilising QDEX (the repository of all digital statutory exploration reports to the Queensland Department of Natural Resources), all open file reports containing relevant data were made available for the compilation of the surface and drillhole data under Tender Agreement NRO0054.

Over a 4 year period a capture of the digital surface (stream sediment, soil, rock chip and other)  and drillhole (location, assays, surveys, geological) data is being carried out for specific regions of the state. These regions are:

  • Mt Isa East
  • Mt Isa West
  • Hodgkinson Basin
  • Drummond Basin
  • Mt Rawdon Corridor

This data will be made available to all explorers for mineral deposits in Queensland.

The data compiled by Terra Search Pty Ltd is the intellectual property of the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and as such is available from the Qld government  and can be obtained on CD/DVD from them.

The following is a quote from the QDNRM (Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines) web site.

"The database contains over 1,981,824 data points (current to 31 January 2008). The data were compiled by Terra Search Pty Ltd through an ongoing contract agreement with the Geological Survey of Queensland as part of the Smart Exploration Program.

The State-wide data are available in Explorer 3 format on DVD. The DVD includes ASCII and MapInfo table format files of the sample point locations. The above package consists of five database blocks."
