Terra Search in PNG

Terra Search has been awarded a major contract as part of the World Bank project for the Mining Sector Institutional Strengthening Project in Papua New Guinea. The contract is for the Management of data capture for the development of a Geographical Information System (GIS) for the Department of Mining. This includes the development and installation of the data management and GIS system as well as the training of local staff in data capture and management.

After an exhaustive tender process Terra Search was awarded the contract in recognition of our extensive experience in the data management field, particularly in the mining and minerals exploration industries. The comprehensive Explorer3 Database Management System developed by Terra Search is being used as the data management system. The contract commenced in June 2002.

The contract includes extensive training of local staff for the Department of Mining in Port Moresby to ensure that at the end of the three-year project the system is maintained and added to.

The ultimate aim of the project is to capture digitally all historical exploration data from PNG into a GIS and integrate it with all available geological, geographical, geophysical and geochemical datasets. During this 3 year project coverage of a majority of the available regional sampling should be completed.
